why does reversible matter?

we love making garments fully reversible, giving you two options in one garment. this autumn we present a reversible, shiny dog coat. after extensive research we sourced a gorgeous, snug, wool/rayon, japanese reversible fabric that is soft and fluffy wool one side, sheeny rayon the other — it is called Flight. you can buy the dog coat here.

using both sides of one fabric to create two different coats in one is a great way to ensure that the clothing we make has a long, well-loved lifespan. if your style or lifestyle changes, there is an alternative option within the same cloth.

what inspired the design of the dog coat?

we were inspired by a coat we made in AW19 — Ember coat is shown in the photo above. it was easy to wear casually or to dress up. we wanted to make a coat with similar easiness, and this is where the idea for the dog coat was born. dog coat and Ember coat share a similar stand collar and large roomy pockets; however we wanted to push the versatility of the dog coat even further. to achieve this we shortened it so that it falls just below the knee and added a curved gathered panel on the back, making the whole thing reversible.

the reversible dog coat is elegant and quite show-stopping with the sheeny rayon side out — perfect to throw on for a fancy occasion. but if you want a more dressed-down look, the coat can be fully reversed with the fluffy wool side facing out, appearing much more subtle and casual.

who makes the dog coat?

our shiny dog coats are handmade one by one by the artisans we work with in vietnam. making the dog coat reversible means all the seams had to be flat felled seams, ensuring that all the raw edges are enclosed within the seam. flat felled seams are incredibly strong and durable — the kind of seam commonly used to make jeans.

the reversible shiny coat is oversized and loose fitting, with two big patch pockets on the front as well as handmade wooden buttons — we hand paint these in a complementary colour to the Flight fabric, so the navy Flight has pale blue rubbed buttons. there is a curved gathered panel on the back and a sweet small stand collar at the neck. shop the full Sula collection or learn more about Sula.
