dirty looks: desire and decay in fashion — the sula team went up to london to visit the dirty looks, desire and decay exhibition at the barbican for inspiration and research. as well as fun.

alongside the iconic hussein chalayan, margiela and galiano pieces, were some memorable exhibits. the crystallised sweat encrusted dress below, the work of alice potts, was a favourite piece. at sula the patina in an exceptional cloth is one of our main focus points when designing each collection, and we enjoyed seeing this beautiful dress and how it glistened with human sweat.

we loved the earthy colours of ma ke, and the simple exaggerated shapes. the beautiful reel of clouds and deserts, but we really loved the tiny plant with a light as it struggled to grow in the gloomy exhibition room.

we were also inspired by michaela stark’s beautiful torn lingerie encased as flat pieces and shown tied around the artist’s body.
